The Center is based on the 皇冠体育博彩大学 campus in downtown Omaha 和 features research cores in Auditory 和 Vestibular Technology 和 Drug Discovery 和 Delivery. Our Center is based on the vision of Dr. 理查德J. ·贝鲁奇. Dr. ·贝鲁奇 was a 1942 graduate of 皇冠体育博彩大学医学院 who went on to become a leading otologic researcher, 外科医生, 和老师. Dr. ·贝鲁奇 was a pioneer in the stapedectomy, a surgical procedure used to correct a form of deafness 和 was the inventor of the ·贝鲁奇 Micro 耳朵 Scissors--which remain a st和ard instrument for otologic 外科医生s. The generous support of the ·贝鲁奇 DePaoli 家庭 Foundation allows us to continue his life’s work 和 be part of his legacy.

关于贝鲁奇博士

Our center is named for Dr. 理查德J. ·贝鲁奇, a 1942 graduate of 皇冠体育博彩大学医学院 who became a pioneer in otologic research 和 surgery 和老师.

After graduating, Dr. ·贝鲁奇 returned to his native New York City to complete his residency 和 joined the faculty at the Manhattan Eye, 耳朵, 和 Throat Hospital in 1946 和 became the chairman in 1963. He retired as a professor emeritus in 1979. He additionally served as a professor 和 chair at the New York Medical College from 1966 to 1980.

Dr. ·贝鲁奇 is probably best known for his work on the stapedectomy, a procedure where a prosthesis is inserted in the inner ear to replace a 镫骨被耳硬化症. 写在 the Annals of Otology, Rhinology & 喉科学 in 1979, ·贝鲁奇 said, “stapedectomy has become recognized as the procedure of choice in the surgical treatment of clinical 耳硬化症.”

The University of Iowa Hospitals 和 Clinics notes the procedure requires an extremely skilled 和 experienced 外科医生, “not many otolaryngologists perform stapedectomy, which requires extreme surgical skill 和 years of experience.” While the procedure is being increasingly supplanted by the use of lasers, his work was fundamental to developing the preferred surgical treatment for a common type of hearing loss for decades. He also invented the ·贝鲁奇 Micro 耳朵 Scissors, which remain a st和ard instrument for otologic 外科医生s.

Dr. ·贝鲁奇 also embodied the Jesuit call for service. He treated veterans of the Second World War who suffered hearing loss in their service. He received the Italian Legion of Merit 和 served as President of the American Otological Society. Later in his life, he volunteered his services at the Hôpital de Sacre Coeur in Milot, Haiti.
